(362) Testosterone Replacement Therapy for Management of Cachexia: A Review of Current Literature

Abstract Introduction Cachexia is a progressively debilitating loss of skeletal muscle often seen in late-stage chronic medical diseases, such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and liver cirrhosis. contributes to mortality morbidity with reduced quality-of-life (QoL) treatment options, can be associated adult-onset hypogonadism (AOH), which commonly treated testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) men. Objective This comprehensive review highlights the current literature on TRT for management patients disease-associated cachexia, an emphasis clinical outcomes side effects. Specifically, we identify highlight relevant primary reviews published since 2000 COPD, Methods A PubMed was performed articles between 2000-2021 cachexia-related diseases (cancer, cirrhosis) use AOH male cachexia. The list studies generated by initial search screened eligible studies.
